Game day checklist for BCSA
Intended to help new coaches participating in BCSA league
Before leaving for the game (all ages unless otherwise marked):
Make sure that you have…
Home games -
· BC United gate and flag box key. (It is the same physical key)
· BC United contact numbers.
· Opposing coach cell phone number.
· MESC president / vp cell phone numbers.
All games -
· Coaching pass, signed, laminated.
· Medical kit including printed concussion procedure.
· Signed roster. (u10 +) It is highly recommended to distribute copies of the roster to all coaches, managers, and a few parents. This is a critical document.
· Referee cash. (u10 +) MUST HAVE EXACT CHANGE!
· Physical laminated and photocopy of player passes. (u14 +, spring league only) If a player forgets their pass but is on the roster, they have until half time to produce it. If this is impossible don’t check them in.
· Printed medical release for all players on your team.
· Printed and signed waiver for any players that are playing up, above their natural age group.
Festival day check list for u8:
· Pop-up Goals
· Cones for field lines
· Corner flags
· Pinnies in case you must borrow players
· Stop watch / whistle
Prepare the BC United field (Home games, u10 +):
· Locate the flag locker which is a bumpout on one of the BC United sheds.
· Make sure the goals are in the proper position and the nets are tear free. Knot or tape the nets as a quick fix.
· Make sure both team areas have a bench.
Pre game procedures (u10 +):
· Coaching pass check – You will not be allowed on the players’ side without this. At least one coach must have their pass or your team forfeits.
· Roster check - the referees will line your team up and make sure you are below the checkin limit and that all participating players are on the roster. Limits are in the
· Player number check – All must have unique numbers. (Tape on a leading “1” if necessary)
· Equipment check - They will check for illegal (burred plastic or metal cleats) and for shin guards.
· Request a water break if the temp is 80 or higher.
Contingencies:
· BCSA just wants games to be played. FIGURE OUT A CREATIVE WAY TO DO SO!
· Add a “1” taped on to a jersey in case duplicate player numbers happen for whatever reason.
· Jerseys that don’t match exactly are acceptable at the discretion of the referee. Use a piney if too dissimilar.
· If you don’t have enough players show up, ask the opposing coach to borrow the appropriate number of players – offer to pay their ref fees and grant them the win. Just do not forfeit.
· If a player arrives after check in, some refs will allow the AR to verify them for play immediately. If not, that player can be checked in at half time and play after that.
After the game:
Home games:
· Return flags to shed, lock shed.
· Pick up all trash on the field.
· Retain any forgotten equipment.
· If you are the last game in the complex, ask any straggling families with cars to leave or at least wait outside the gate area so you can lock it.
All games:
· File a game report. (applicable for u12 and up, due by Monday at 9pm)
